OBJECTIVES To appreciate the evolution and philosophy of Limit State Design including quality control aspects. To apply the limit state of serviceability concepts like deflection for structural elements. To design the steel structural elements for bending, shear, axial tension and compression as per IS800 – 2007. PARTICIPANTS Teachers of Civil Engineering and allied branches. INPUT Evolution and Philosophy of Limit State Design – Codal provisions of IS 800 – 2007 - Design of tension members, compression members, simple and built up columns, column bases and truss elements – simple and plated beams - plastic theory - deflections – Limit state of serviceability. PROCESS Lecture cum discussions. Computer package demonstration. OUTPUT Enriched knowledge and skills in applying Limit State Design principles for steel structural elements.
